Current Political Issues: Live Classes
Students come to this class prepared to discuss events they have seen or read about in the news. Each week will also include a deep dive on a different political issue: we will discuss how the issue has evolved over time, what factors influence it, and what its future may be. Topics will include the 2026 midterm election, gerrymandering, the filibuster, wealth inequality, state election laws, and criminal justice reform, among others.
Our live online classes meet twice a week on Zoom and include supplemental readings, guided notes, and offline activities designed to reinforce concepts and develop critical thinking skills. Class attendance is strongly encouraged but videos of each class session will be posted for students who are unable to attend that day.
This class is for students in grades 9-12. It includes discussions of mature topics such as abortion, civil rights, and LGBTQ rights.
Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 - 3:20 ET.
The first day of class is August 24, 2026.
The final class will be December 16, 2026.
